BIDAULT IN CEPHALONIA: Argostoli, 15 – At 6 p.m. today the steamship Mediterranean docked in the port of Lixouri bearing France’s former prime minister and current foreign minister, Georges Bidault, and his wife. Also on board were some 400 Greek and French holidaymakers. Mr and Mrs Bidault came ashore to a welcome by the mayor and other local authorities. The former French prime minister and his wife walked through the town and, before leaving, promised that he would pay for the reconstruction of the town’s orphanage and home for the aged. At 6.30 p.m. the ship docked in Argostoli where the visitors were greeted by the deputy minister for the rehabilitation of earthquake victims on the islands, Mr G. Romanos, and all the island authorities. The visitors toured the village of Lakythra which is to be reconstructed by the French government. The Mediterranean sailed from Argostoli at 7.30 p.m. NO SUPPORT: (From an editorial in Kathimerini titled «For Shame»): «It has been a week since the night of terrible violence in Istanbul and Izmir and in those seven days not one voice has been raised in the outside world, the world of culture and Christianity, that the events were a disgrace to humanity.»
