GREECE-BULGARIA: The Greek government has submitted the following communique to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry via its Charge d’Affaires in Sofia, Mr K. Tranos, in reply to a recent note verbale from Bulgaria: «(…) The Greek government is ready to resume interrupted negotiations for the purpose of clearing all obstacles that hinder the improvement of bilateral relations. The beginning of a constructive effort in this direction should be the determination of the first installment of the Bulgarian war reparations and the manner in which they should be paid. The Greek government therefore awaits the Bulgarian government’s views on the question of this sum – which should be substantial – before any new negotiations begin. CYPRIOT STRUGGLE: Nicosia, 20 – Two Greek journalists, agents of the British, have been shot. HAMMARSKJOLD:19 – At a press conference in Athens yesterday, United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold was asked whether the current situation in Cyprus was consistent with the principles and goals of the UN. He said that he was the senior civil servant of 76 UN member states, although that did not preclude his own personal views.
