OPPOSITION FRONT: New York, 21 – The New York Herald Tribune newspaper, in an analysis of the situation in Greece on the eve of elections, emphasized that recent revelations of communist activities in Greece, the discovery of a radio transmitter and the arrest of eight alleged communists have strengthened the position of the Karamanlis government and lessened the likelihood of of the illegal status of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) being lifted in the near future. These discoveries, it continued, occurred two days after a meeting of former ministers and politicians who set up a democratic front under the leadership of George Papandreou and with the participation of the United Democratic Left (EDA), which has been criticized as being a poorly concealed cover for attempts to bring the KKE into the electoral race. RENE CLAIR: The leading French film director Rene Clair, who has been in Athens for two days, achieved the greatest success of his career this year with the film «Les grandes manoeuvres.» CYPRIOT STRUGGLE: Nicosia, 20 – Two Greek journalists, said to be agents of the British, have been shot.
