CYPRUS ISSUE PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE: The Greek Parliament debated the Cyprus issue yesterday. The prime minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, was officially declared the leader of the nation yesterday despite the arguments put forward by the opposition. TROUBLE IN CYPRUS: Nicosia, 23 – Blood was shed today in the worst violence that has taken place so far between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in Nicosia, during celebrations to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Turkish state. Two Turks were killed in the incidents. A curfew was imposed, while a Greek Cypriot’s shop near the Turkish district was set alight and burned throughout the night. MIRKO ARDEMAGNI: The press attache at the Italian Embassy in Athens, Mr Mirko Ardemagni, is being transferred to Madrid. He is to leave within the next few days. A former journalist, Ardemagni has written many excellent books. (…) His government can thank him for managing to restore a friendly atmosphere in the Greek press corps with regard to Greek-Italian relations, which had been clouded by the war.
