NIKOLAOS KRANIDIOTIS: Nicosia, 28/9 – The Ethnarchy Council of Cyprus, which met today, has protested against the arrest of its general secretary Mr Nikolaos Kranidiotis and the house arrest imposed on Metropolitan Anthimos. In a statement, the Council also reiterated that Archbishop Makarios is the only person authorized to carry out negotiations… Finally, it emphasized that the council expects Greece to raise the Cyprus issue with the United Nations Security Council. ANASTASIO SOMOZA GARCIA: Panama, 29 – President Anastasio Somoza Garcia, 60, the strongman who ruled Nicaragua for 20 years, died this morning of injures sustained in an attack that took place on September 21. ILLITERACY: Reports that the illiteracy rate in Greece has reached 42 percent have been officially denied. The rate is no higher than 13 percent, lower than many countries such as Romania (32.2 percent), Bulgaria (38 percent) and Albania, where it is over 75 percent. AMERICAN BALLET THEATER: The final performances in Athens of the American Ballet Theater are to take place today and tomorrow at the Kotopouli Theater.
