KARAMANLIS-ALLEN: The new US ambassador to Greece, Mr George V. Allen, yesterday called on the prime minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, with whom he spoke for about two hours. This first meeting covered a broad range of political, military and economic issues of interest to both countries. SIXTH FLEET: Tomorrow morning squadrons of the US Sixth Fleet will sail into the Bay of Faliron. Admiral Brown will be received by the defense minister, Mr Aristides Protopapadakis, and will visit the leader of the National Defense General Staff, Lt Gen Constantinos Dovas. The first snow has fallen on the mountains of central Greece. SALVATORE QUASIMODO:The distinguished Italian poet, a compatriot of Luigi Pirandello, Salvatore Quasimodo, is currently visiting Athens. A Sicilian born in 1901, Quasimodo has published nine collections of poetry since 1930, the most important of which is considered to be «Ed e subito sera,» published in 1942. (Ed.note: Quasimodo was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1959.) HEADLINES: A Yugoslav military mission is expected in Athens. Registrations at all high schools to take place by October 20.
