BRIDES: Melbourne, 15 – Hundreds of Greek migrants tried to force their way onto an ocean liner after it arrived here today with about 600 Greek women on board. Despite the efforts of port authorities, about 40 Greeks managed to climb up on each other’s shoulders to board the ship. Of the 500 Greek women, 200 are engaged to Greek men who have already settled in Australia. SKYJACKING IN HUNGARY: Budapest, 15 – According to an announcement from the Hungarian Interior Ministry, two plain-clothes police officers today prevented four people from forcing the crew of a Hungarian passenger plane to land in West Germany. Police had earlier arrested a fifth member of the group and discovered their plan. When the four men threatened the pilot with automatic weapons and told him to change course for Germany, the two officers shot one of them dead and injured a second. The other two surrendered. CIVIL SERVANTS’ STRIKE: The executive committee of the civil servants’ umbrella union (ADEDY) announce with regret that they are forced to choose between being condemned to die and to struggle for survival, albeit illegally.
