COUNCIL OF EUROPE: Strasbourg, 19 – Greece achieved its first victory concerning the Cyprus issue with an international organization today after an intense and inspired speech by Greek minister Mr Grigoris Kassimatis. Sweden, Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Ireland and other countries co-signed a proposal by the deputy, Mr Droulias, for a Council of Europe committee to go to Cyprus and examine the situation on site. The proposal has already been submitted to the Council’s general assembly. AMERICAN DONATION: The trade and industry minister, Mr Panagis Papaligouras, has announced that 2 million pounds of milk powder were imported to Greece yesterday from the Care organization as a gift from the American government and people for distribution around the country. The same organization is to import 100,000 packages of food during the Christmas holidays as a further gift from the American government and people. The Greek government has agreed to cover half of the cargo costs, with the rest to be paid by the US government. The value of the milk powder amounts to 800,000 dollars.
