OPINION

Useful message

Primary school pupils are finally returning to class this morning. State schools will open their doors after six weeks of strikes that have caused a major upheaval among students, families, teachers and society in general. The return to normalcy was not easy, in fact a complete breakdown was averted at the 11th hour. There are no winners and losers here. The compromise bears the stamp of maturity and democratic responsibility. We have seen that by engaging in sincere dialogue and by shouldering one’s share of responsibility, the members of a society can safeguard peaceful life and collective prosperity. Civil society must safeguard this precious knowledge and sideline isolated opportunists who pose a threat to normality and future well-being.
