ADMIRAL AGAINST FIELD MARSHAL: The shameless libeling of Field Marshal Papagos has led to the withdrawal of the Greek Rally party from Parliament. It is considered certain that the person responsible, the national defense minister (Admiral Sakellariou), will face sanctions. Acting Prime Minister Sophocles Venizelos went to the palace last night (…). The cause of the scandal was an order issued by Sakellariou on the occasion of Independence Day, March 25, according to which «the four-month-long libel campaign in the press against the armed forces, instigated by Field Marshal Papagos himself in a speech in Parliament, has influenced public opinion. During tomorrow’s parade to celebrate the national holiday, taxpayers will be able to see for themselves the extent of the unpatriotic libel campaign.» (…) EXECUTIONS: Shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday (March 30), four of the eight communists who had received death sentences, including Nikos Beloyiannis, were executed at Goudi. PRELIMINARIES: At the prison in Kallithea (…), Beloyiannis was given permission to approach the bars of another prisoner, Elli Ioannidou, and to embrace her after whispering a few words that no one else could hear. He then gave her his watch and his wallet.
