KARAMANLIS-RALLIS: Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis, Minister for Transport and Public Works Georgios Rallis and ministry officials have visited areas in Athens where public works are to begin this year. First they visited the area around the Byzantine Museum where the Athens Cultural Center is to be developed, then saw Syntagma Square, the area around the Acropolis, the site of the new vegetable market in Aghios Ioannis Rendis, the new avenue along the banks of the Kifissos River, the coastal road from Neo Faliron to Vouliagmenis, Stadiou and Panepistimiou streets, Klafthmonos and Omonia squares, the site of the new intercity bus station and the new central post office. SOLOMOS CENTENARY: The centenary of the death of the national poet Dionysis Solomos is to be marked on February 25 at the Gymnastics Academy. Speeches are to be made and Solomos’s poems are to be recited by National Theater actors Eleni Nenedaki, Thanos Kotsopoulos and Stelios Vokovits. Among interesting excerpts from the February issue of the magazine Eklogi are Italian sonnets by our national poet. The 10 first sonnets in the series «Rimae Improvisate» are translated by Mr I. Pamboukis.
