FAULKNER IN GREECE: (From a report by Georgios S. Leotsakos): Thanks to a press conference held yesterday afternoon at the initiative of the American Information Service on the third floor of the Army Pension Fund building, representatives of the Greek press had the opportunity to meet the famous American writer William Faulkner (the Nobel Prize winner in 1949), who is visiting Greece for the staging of the play adapted from his novel «Requiem for a Nun» at the Kotopouli Theater… Faulkner told the press that he did not see himself as a playwright and that he mostly thought as a novelist. Nevertheless, he said he believes the stage version of «Requiem for a Nun,» adapted by Albert Camus, was particularly successful. In his opinion, the novel is the most appropriate form of literature for communicating with the broader public. He said that he personally was always seeking better and better ways to do this, and that this was one of that main problems he faces as a writer… He believes the cinema is above all a commercial venture and as such it is only natural that there should be a conflict between commerce and art.
