FROM TAE TO OLYMPIC: 4 – The minister for the economy and the deputy transport minister yesterday signed two official documents on behalf of the state, accepting the relevant committee’s report on the assets of the TAE airline and its sale to Aristotle Onassis’s new company, Olympic Airways. After yesterday’s formalities, Olympic Airways today has full control of air transport. It was announced that the official inauguration of the new airline will take place next May, following delivery of new aircraft, which will include the latest models. VICTIM OF PEACE: New York, 1 -World War I hero Giulio Contino, 61, jumped off the roof of the 17-story war veterans’ building here yesterday despite efforts by a police officer to persuade the semi-paralyzed man, leaning on crutches, not to jump… Half an hour earlier Contino had gone to the veterans’ pension bureau to ask for an increase that had been due for a year, but the clerk had been unable to give him any information. In desperation, Contino, who was up to his neck in debt, decided to end his life. The tragic irony was that a letter with news of Contino’s raise reached his home that afternoon in the post.
