Shedding light on funds scandal

The public demands that the conservative government shed light on all aspects of the pension funds scandal. This can only be done via an in-depth investigation conducted by the two independent bodies entrusted with that specific task. Although the president of the Capital Market Commission (CMC), Alexios Pilavios, and the head of the independent committee formed to combat money laundering, Giorgos Zorbas, certainly have the will to clarify all aspects of the affair, it’s far from certain that they have the necessary means and manpower to carry out the task. The watchdog under Zorbas has a small staff of just 11 people, when over 50 are really needed if it is to do its job properly. In dealing with the latest scandal that has poisoned Greece’s body politic, we must first strengthen the hand of the relevant independent authorities.
