Wanted: Team spirit
In a few months Greece will enter a campaign period. The New Democracy government is under fire on all sides – from the Socialist opposition, a section of the media and other powerful interests. The conservative administration ought to respond by seeking ways to cement its unity. Regrettably, the ruling conservatives have been dogged by inside bickering and scapegoating. The latest episode in this civil war is the attitude of government cadres toward embattled Labor Minister Savvas Tsitouridis, who now appears to be on his way out of the government. The ministers must behave as members of a group because their posturing is damaging the party as well as the country. Too bad they don’t even have a political survival instinct.
