PELLA EXCAVATIONS: Thessaloniki, 20 – Excavations at ancient Pella, Alexander the Great’s capital, carried out on the instructions of the Education Ministry, were completed today. The antiquities ephorate which supervised the excavations said that a peristyle had been discovered consisting of six Ionian columns. Found in excellent condition, it probably formed part of the main entrance of the palace court, and is certainly not part of a temple. It may have been part of a gymnasium or wrestling school.
