AGAINST KARTALIS: (From an editorial in Kathimerini) «Mr (Georgios) Kartalis is playing an evil game (…) while on the one hand as minister of coordination he is administering American aid funds, on the other he is helping communists in various ways. Now once again he is trying to sell Greek tobacco to the East Germans, that is to Moscow. Who is Mr Kartalis, who does he represent, and whence derives his political power? It is a mystery. The fact, however, is that at this moment, since he heads a very crucial ministry, he is in charge of the country. In order to align his own forces with those of Moscow so that Greece can be rebuilt, he is doing what he can to protect the communists. The crowning achievement of Kartalis’s left-wing super government are the peace and clemency measures. (…) A red peace is being prepared for the country, without any reservations or excuses (…). TRANSACTION: Berlin, 10 (Associated Press)- Moscow has ordered East Germany to break off all commercial ties with Greece, as a form of revenge for the prosecution and breakup of a secret, illegal communist organization.(…) The order (…) chiefly concerns shipments of tobacco valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars.
