ARCHBISHOP THEOKLITOS: The Hierarchy of the Church of Greece met yesterday at Athens Cathedral, in the presence of Education and Religious Affairs Minister Achilleas Gerokostopoulos, and elected Metropolitan Theoklitos of Patras as the new archbishop of Athens and all Greece in the first round. DEATH OF HARDY: Hollywood, 7 – Oliver Hardy, the popular American comedian, died today. Hardy, who suffered a stroke last September, was 65 years of age. Together with his partner Stan Laurel, he starred in over 200 comedies since the duo teamed up in 1927. He had been bedridden and could not speak since suffering the stroke, and died at the home of his mother-in-law. ITALO CALVINO: Turin, 7 – As a result of the upheaval in the ranks of the Italian Communist Party, the writer Italo Calvino today submitted his resignation from the party.
