Politicians not getting the message
Next Sunday’s general elections are sure to reflect what has become widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate with the existing political parties. That dissatisfaction is itself a reflection of the lack of communication between society as a whole and the politicians who are running the country. It is now abundantly clear that the people’s needs and expectations are not being met, are not even being recognized, by our politicians. However, that lack of harmony could lead to problems if it continues to prevail once the general elections are over. The country’s political class will have to stop deluding itself and give a convincing response to the message it has been receiving from the public, otherwise that lack of harmony could prove to be a threat to the smooth operations of the state. Scorn for particular politicians could lead to scorn for the institutions they represent, subsequently creating a political vacuum. And a vacuum is the last thing this country needs under the current critical circumstances.
