ATHENS REPLIES TO MOSCOW: Reliable government sources, commenting on yesterday’s broadcast by Moscow radio regarding Greece, have made the following comment: «This attack was not only unexpected but in bad faith, given that Greece’s friendly relations with all Arab states are well known, unless that is what bothers those who launched the said attack. As for Greece’s foreign policy: As a sovereign state, it determines that policy on the basis of its own security and of international peace. Being mindful of the fact that generally, and in this specific case, its presence in the international arena is in accordance with the principles of law and of peace, Greece does not recognize anyone’s right to made recommendations, let alone threats.» CINEMA: Three winter cinemas (the Titania, the Orpheus and the Kotopouli) have opened for the new season. US NUCLEAR TEST: Nevada Atomic Testing Range, August 31 – This morning an atomic bomb placed on top of a 208-meter tower was detonated. Nine hundred men took part in the exercise that followed the explosion.
