Lessons learned from Bali

Greeks are not particularly proud of their country’s delegation at the UN Climate Change Conference that has just ended in Bali. They hope that the experience will serve as a lesson. They are also demanding a more serious approach to environmental issues, even if this must come from a department in the Public Works Ministry. Greece has to take a leading part in issues concerning the environment. First of all because they are of immediate concern to everyone’s safety, as last summer’s wildfires showed, and to their children’s future. Secondly, because they have a direct impact on tourism, perhaps the most crucial sector of the economy. That is why there is such a need for vigilance and active participation in the decision-making process. The society of citizens has realized the magnitude of the problem and is taking action in a number of ways. They simply hope that at some point, the government will sit up and take notice. reeks are not particularly proud of their country’s delegation at the UN Climate Change Conference that has just ended in Bali.
