FOURTH MARRIAGE: The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) has appealed to the authorities to abolish Article 1355 of the civil code, so that people can marry a fourth time, provided of course that they have obtained a relevant permit from the local bishop. COOKERY BOOK: «The New Cuisine for Greek Homes» by Sofia Skoura has just been published. Skoura is a teacher at the Psychico Arsakeio School. CHRISTIANS IN EASTERN EUROPE: Paris, 24 – This year Christmas was celebrated with greater freedom than in the past in the people’s republics of Eastern Europe. During the past year, there has been a clear improvement in the status of churches. In Poland, the country’s leader Wladyslaw Gomulka satisfied the Catholic Church’s main demand by once again allowing the teaching of religion in state schools and issuing instructions that the work of clerics in hospitals and prisons should not be impeded. UN AGAINST CYPRIOTS’ SELF-DETERMINATION: New York, 14 – The 12th UN General Assembly did not ratify a Political Committee resolution proposing negotiations to settle the Cyprus issue based on self-determination.
