‘A curse on the union storm troopers’

To the «storm troopers» of the Greek unions… Of course, you do not want our IKA [March 11 commentary, «We don’t want your IKA!»], since you are animals more equal than the rest of us, to paraphrase George Orwell’s «Animal Farm.» You are like the Ottoman pashas that kept Greece in the Dark Ages while Europe was going through the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution etc. By willfully and capriciously plunging Greece into darkness in the hours when honest working Greeks want to read a book, surf the Internet, or our children want to do their homework so that our country will have a better tomorrow, you are telling us that we need to feel solidarity for your cause which is just an egotistical «agonas» [struggle] hopefully doomed to failure! You did not «win» these rights for better treatment, you bought them from «corrupt» governments for votes, «katara» [a curse] on you and them for creating a society of unequal Greeks… By the way, I wrote this by candlelight while waiting for the Internet to come back on, in order to send it… I hope that you will be able to reflect on your actions when you «turn our lights on» since you are also in darkness during that time! NIKO MAKSIMYADIS, Spili, Greece.
