WHO IS TO BLAME? Former Deputy Interior Minister N. Athanassiou… has observed that the only communists still in internal exile on the island of Aghios Efstratios were those who would not repent, who had belonged to the Communist Party and who would give Greece a bad name by saying that Greece had political concentration camps. Others who had simply agreed to make a verbal statement of repentance had been freed. «I would be very happy if the release of a large number of exiles,» Athanassiou said «and on the eve of elections was simply to serve the ideals of freedom and democracy. Unfortunately, however, it will soon be clear that another 142 fanatical communists will be added to the ranks of the country’s enemies.» MORE WOMEN: The Interior Ministry has announced that of the some 4 million men and women registered to vote, the majority are women. GIRAUDOUX AND SOLOMOS: The Royal Theater is staging Jean Giraudoux’s three-act play «Tessa» next Thursday, in a translation by Alexis Solomos and featuring Vasso Manolidou, Lykourgos Kallergis, Rita Myrat, Maria Alkaiou and Dimitris Papamichail.
