A greener zoning plan

The new land zoning law submitted to Parliament by Development Minister Christos Folias has prompted reactions among a large number of technical experts and environmental groups. Nevertheless, the proposed legislation has been of help by touching off a fruitful debate about the future of Greece. After all, the blueprint concerns every aspect of the country’s future: the environment, the economy, business and tourism. A careful re-examination of certain aspects, leading to an inclusion of environmental objections in order to balance economic growth and environmental protection, should produce a sustainable blueprint. This could prove to be a major step for the country as long as the responsible officials are cautious and thorough. Greece’s future demands an in-depth discussion.
