BRIGADIER KALOMIRIS (From a letter to the «Athenian» from Georgios D. Dimakopoulos on the great Greek musician): I have read about the various events to mark the 50th anniversary of composer Manolis Kalomiris’s work. Don’t you think these should include a gesture from the General Army Staff, which naturally will have forgotten that many years ago Kalomiris was the army’s chief musician? A commemorative certificate or medal or even just a telegram to the old Brigadier of Military Music, I believe, would honor the donor rather than the humble recipient. SOVIET MISSILE BASES: London, 24 – The Soviet Union has already sited missile bases throughout the zone in Central Europe which it had proposed be demilitarized, that is in Poland, East Germany and Czechoslovakia. This was announced this evening by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry in Oslo. CYPRUS: Nicosia, 25 – The governor of Cyprus, Sir Hugh Foot, in a radio address today to the Cypriot people revealed that he is to go to London at the end of the month for talks with the British government on the future of the island. He added that he would not be able to do so in the event that violent acts continued to be perpetrated on the island.
