AGAINST KKE AND NATO: (Extracts from two commentaries in Kathimerini) – «We do not know exactly what will be the final outcome of investigations into the activities of the illegal Communist Party (KKE), nor what the government will do to deal with the problem in general if it emerges that contacts between the United Democratic Left (EDA) and the exiled KKE are continuing… It is strange that all governments since 1951 have not wanted to deal with this problem. They have outlawed the KKE, but at the same time have granted legal status to its substitute. In the intervening years, EDA has been cultivating the appearance of the fellow traveler.» «It may be necessary for the defense of the West to install nuclear missile bases in all NATO member states. But, for these bases to be secure and therefore useful to the alliance, they have to be protected by people who believe in NATO, its usefulness and above all in solidarity among its members. So it is a fundamental mistake on the part of NATO to set up bases in countries where that faith has been dashed. First of all, NATO must regain people’s faith in it. In Greece, at a time when suddenly everyone is seeing the need for the fullest possible protection of the West by NATO, they also realize that we have lost our faith in it.»
