ATHENS FESTIVAL: The Athens State Orchestra will appear at the Herod Atticus Theater tomorrow night, performing works by Beethoven. Tickets are being sold at 50, 35, 25, 20 and 15 drachmas. IPHIGENIA: The National Theater Organization is to perform Euripides’ tragedy «Iphigenia in Tauris» at the open-air Herod Atticus Theater tonight. NEW COMEDY: Dimitris Psathas’s new comedy «The Thief Shouts» is to premiere this winter season at the Kotopouli Theater, performed by the Mary Aroni – Dinos Iliopoulos company. POLAND: Warsaw, August – The newspaper of the Union of Soviet Writers has launched a fresh attack on Polish intellectuals, accusing them of spreading anti-Marxist and pro-Western ideas. The Soviet newspaper attacked the greatest writers and artists specifically by name, even the education minister, who is a personal friend of Wladyslaw Gomulka, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party. EOKA: A six-day truce by the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA) ended today. Proclamations by EOKA say the group reserves the right to resume attacks tomorrow, if provocations by the British and Turks continue.
