Summer slumber must end

Summer might be on its way out, but unfortunately one cannot say the same about the major problems that are affecting the country. They seem to have been simply pushed aside during what is supposed to be a carefree holiday season. The all too familiar structural weaknesses continue to plague the economy, the state of the environment keeps deteriorating and crime sadly continues to flourish. Meanwhile, the government appears to have no answers to the challenges it is facing, regardless of whether these challenges are old or new ones. This September we must start afresh. The people are expecting their government to come up with a new plan to deal with the multitude of ills that plague the country. They also expect the opposition to display the circumspection demanded by the complexity of the crisis. Everyone needs to wake up before the country is faced with impasses that will be enormously expensive to overcome.
