Solid front in the face of a crisis

It is a positive sign that the various political forces in Greece decided to put aside their differences and form a common front on the issue of protecting depositors. The speech by opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou, and everything he said about backing the government’s decision to open an umbrella over the credit system, shows a sense of responsibility. We all know that there is no room for petty political squabbling in the midst of a global financial storm, which requires nothing less than a sober, concerted approach. And this has been proved today. Thanks to the stance of both the government and the opposition, Greek banks are less vulnerable to global fluctuations, but idle and spurious rumors can still create problems, and the contribution of the opposition in negating these rumors is crucial, since it can help further protect the country’s credit system.
