GLEZOS ARRESTED: Athens security police have arrested a number of perhaps the most important cadres of the illegal Communist Party of Greece (KKE), who had been engaged in espionage. It appears that officials of the United Democratic Left (EDA) were also involved. Deputy Public Order Minister Evangelos Kalantzis said in a statement that EDA Secretary and editor of the newspaper Avghi, Manolis Glezos, had also been arrested. Some time ago the Communist outlaw Costas Koliyiannis (aka Arvanitis), a member of the KKE’s politburo, had entered Greece illegally and that Glezos had been in regular contact with him. The announcement went on to say that it was clear that the communists were still active in Greece and that people should be aware of the continuing threat to democracy and national independence. It was also clear, the announcement said, that EDA members were communists and that the hard core of the party were being directed by a foreign power. ATHENIAN REVUE: The new satirical revue titled «Winter in Athens» premieres tonight at the Acropole Theater, directed by Manolis Kastrinos.
