State must mobilize or mourn

Since September last year, the country has been continuously mired in violence. And there seems to be no end to it. Terrorist attacks are very nearly taking place on a daily basis as are the violent assaults against public figures. These incidents, of course, only harm the country and its image internationally. At the same time, the latest string of terrorist attacks are bound to take a serious toll on the local economy and the tourism industry, which are already destined to suffer from the ongoing worldwide credit crunch. Unfortunately, Greece is paying the price for the government’s lax policies on domestic guerrilla activity and violence by anti-establishment groups, both of which have seen an alarming resurgence in the past few years. There is no time for further delay. If we fail to act now, things will only get dramatically worse. The state apparatus must mobilize as soon as possible or we shall mourn many innocent victims.
