NATIONAL HIGHWAY: It has been announced that plans to construct a new Athens-Larissa highway have been speeded up. The highway is to pass through Malakasa, the plain of Thebes, Kopaida, Atalanti, Kammena Vourla, Lamia and Almyro. Work is expected to begin soon, provided the necessary capital is available. KHRUSHCHEV IN THE US: Des Moines, Iowa – Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev arrived today on the fourth stop of his historic tour of the United States, following visits to New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The good humor and affability he displayed and the warm welcome afforded by the people of the United States’ Pacific cities during the last few hours of his stay there, were in evidence again today as he emerged from the aircraft that flew him from San Francisco. STUDENT TICKET: University students yesterday gathered outside the University of Athens to hold a silent protest march demanding a 50 percent discount on public transport. As they were preparing to march toward the Transport Ministry, where they were to disperse peacefully, they were stopped by police.
