KHRUSHCHEV AND MAO: Peking, 2 – For the first time since Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev arrived in Peking, an official communique was released this evening on his talks with Chinese leader Mao Tse-Tung which were held «in an atmosphere of warm friendship.» The subject of the talks was not released, of course, but one of the participants drew the conclusion that Sino-Soviet relations generally as well as specific problems of a military and ideological nature were examined, following Khrushchev’s visit to the United States. Today the Soviet leader had fresh talks with Mao, who later held an official dinner in his guest’s honor. Talks continued into the afternoon. Meanwhile it was later reported that the two leaders extended their talks until late in the evening, which was the reason for their failure to attend a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet. It gave rise to rumors that the matters being discussed highlighted the need to focus also on other general issues. KATINA PAXINOU: According to a report from New York, Greek actress Katina Paxinou is beginning rehearsals today for a production of Bertolt Brecht’s «Mother Courage,» at a Broadway theater. Paxinou is to play the leading role.
