Not the time for idle boasts

One never ceases to be amazed at the persistence, some might say obsession, of some government ministers to keep making appearances on television talk shows, indeed some of them on an almost daily basis. Their behavior would be understandable if they had actually accomplished a body of work to boast about. However, when the ministers in question are in charge of extremely important portfolios such as health, where absolutely no important decisions have been taken and no expenses have been cut – on the contrary, all that has been done is the appointment of ministers’ cronies to the head of hospital administration boards – then the phenomenon is truly outrageous. One wonders whether the prime minister, or anyone else in the government for that matter, will ever get round to telling these officials just what their job description is. Will no one tell them that if they don’t like it, then there are plenty of others waiting to fill their shoes? And this at a time when the country finds itself in dire straits and is in no position to tolerate such irresponsible behavior on the part of its leaders.
