Stop animal abuse; punish the sadists

I am outraged about the policy of the Athens mayor to withhold all water for strays, many of which have died recently of heat exhaustion due to his illegal policy. What is the point of Police HQ putting forward policies to prosecute animal abusers if they ignore the mayors of cities who poison, allow poison and the mayor of the capital demands that no water be given to strays. Greece is rapidly losing its tourists, not only because of the economy but because many worldwide are now seeing the true side of Greece. The side where animal abuse, neglect and intolerance makes it have the highest per capita rate for this sort of crime in the EU.

I am horrified by the sadistic slow hanging of the nine dogs in Kardamena [Kos], whose photos went around the world in July. I demand justice for the animals and punishment for the sadists that killed them. This incident is not an isolated case. I’m appalled that a government can have little regard for innocent lives. Most animals in Greece are treated like pests. They are hanged, poisoned, run over or beaten to death. Animal advocacy groups get little to no support, and the laws on animal cruelty are lax and are hardly enforced. It’s time for a change!
