PASOK leader paving way for party elections

Determined to maintain the initiative on the internal party front, PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis is said to be ready to launch procedures for leadership elections.

He will give a first indication of his intentions at Wednesday’s meeting of the political council of PASOK.

What’s more, a definitive roadmap, with steps and dates, is expected to be presented to the central committee at the end of the month.

Close associates of Androulakis favor going to the polls, as the party, they state, has entered a period of introversion that cannot be extended for long. Earlier in the week, senior cadres called for leadership elections in response to the results of the European elections.

The rival camps in PASOK are preparing for what is expected to be a particularly acrimonious political council meeting on Wednesday.

Androulakis, according to his aides, will present a first assessment of the election result, not only for PASOK, but more generally, and how the political landscape is shaping up the day after the European elections.
