Teaching physical health

Experienced instructors from around the world will be making their way to the Greek capital with their gear in tow for the 3rd Athens Pilates Symposium, scheduled to take place at the Aigli venue in the Zappeio Gardens from July 1-3.

Among the respected Pilates masters who will be showing their methods to other instructors and to students are: Lolita San Miguel, a grande dame of the discipline who studied under Joseph Pilates himself; Samantha Wood, an experienced physical therapist and head of education at the California-based Basi Pilates teacher training college; Ed Botha, a master-level teacher from South Africa who is also a champion athlete, boxing and martial art teacher; UK-based Amit Younger, who specializes in post-education for Pilates teachers; and Vivi Letsou, organizer of the Athens event and a yoga and Pilates instructor herself.

Over the four days of the symposium, the guests will be running seminars, mat and equipment practice sessions and hands-on experience. The event is organized by the Greek nonprofit group Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body, NYSY Studios of Athens and Basi Pilates.

Last year?s symposium was attended by over 350 professionals from Greece and 13 other countries.

Registration for the full program of events costs 398 euros, although those wishing just to attend on specific days or to go to certain events can do so for a smaller fee.
