Two fundraising events coming up

The Friends of Animals Nea Philadelphia shelter for abandoned pets is holding a fundraising dinner on Wednesday, July 6, with all proceeds from the 25-euro tickets going toward its activities.

The dinner will be held at the Lemonokipos taverna (11 Aghias Triados) in Nea Philadelphia, northwest of Athens, at 8.30 p.m.

In a note to the public, Friends of Animals Nea Philadelphia expressed its concern that it already has over 70 dogs under its care at what is just the start of the summer holiday season, during which the number of abandoned pets across Attica tend to skyrocket.

The group also says that significant increases in the price of food, supplies and veterinary care, coupled with a drop in donations, both due to the impact of the economic crisis on consumer product prices and on people?s ability to donate money, have put an enormous strain on the shelter?s operations.

People who want to help the shelter, but cannot afford to make cash donations, can offer their services on a voluntary basis or donate pet food or other items it can use.
