Austrian Embassy supports local children?s charity
The Austrian Embassy in Athens has donated 2,000 euros to the Greek charity SOS Children?s Villages, its press office has announced.
Austrian Ambassador to Athens Dr Michael Linhart presented the grant to president of the charity Dimitris Vattis at a reception on October 21.
The money was generated through an event organized by the Austrian Embassy in cooperation with the Hotel St George Lycabettus on October 10. Titled the ?Sound of Austria,? it brought Austrian and Greek artists together and included an exhibition of modern art as well as performances of classical and contemporary music.
Following the cultural activities guests enjoyed traditional Austrian delicacies at a dinner hosted by the hotel.
Proceeds from the event were then donated to SOS Children?s Villages, an organization providing a support system for orphaned children or children from troubled homes, which has been operating in Greece since 1979.
SOS Children?s Villages provide abandoned, orphaned and destitute children with a new and permanent home, where they receive an education and are prepared for independence in adult life.
Ambassador Linhart said «thanks to the large moral and financial support of many friends of SOS Children’s Village, which is particularly important especially in economically difficult times, the SOS Children’s Villages can help many.?
In Greece there are three SOS Children’s Villages, two SOS Youth Houses and three SOS Social Centers.
