Internet’s feline superstars get own festival in Athens

On Sunday, February 2, the Six Dogs venue in Monastiraki will host Athens’s 1st Cat Video Festival. The event has been organized by Nine Lives Greece and will be presented by MTV Greece VJ Jenny Theona, a known cat lover. Marking the start of World Spay Month, the festival aims to raise awareness regarding the importance of neutering stray and domestic animals. The video, which will be screened at 5.30 and 7 p.m., is a compilation of the Internet’s funniest and most beloved cat clips.

The first Cat Video Festival was launched in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2012 by the Walker Art Center. The festival has since become a fixture in a handful of American cities and European nations. Admission to the Athens event costs 4 euros for adults and 2 euros for children. All proceeds will be devoted to sheltering and feeding centers for the city’s stray cats.
