AHI to POTUS: Washington must respond strongly to Turkish threats to US, Greece

American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis has written to US President Joe Biden citing the need for a strong response from Washington to threats made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish government officials against the United States and Greece.

The letter, which is dated September 29, details several recent examples of Turkish inflammatory statements and provocative actions, including the country’s demarches to the American and Greek governments to protest the deployment of US-made armored military vehicles to Greece.

“During a time of unprecedented global strife, American leadership is needed more than ever,” Larigakis said.

“The Turkish government’s threating rhetoric against Greece and the United States is deeply concerning. It is always better to be proactive and prevent a crisis, rather than to react after the fact. As such, it is high time for the United States government to hold President Erdogan and the Turkish government accountable, before the situation careens out of control,” he said.
