Williams, ranked No. 1 in the world, took just over an hour to defeat 18th-seeded Daniilidou and advance to the quarterfinals. Later, Daniilidou, paired with Australia’s Todd Woodbridge, defeated second-seeded Mike Bryan and Lisa Raymond of the United States, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 to advance to the third round of the mixed doubles.
