Lamia beats PAOK in Volleyleague

PAOK’s loss at Lamia on Saturday, December 18 allowed Panathinaikos to lead the Volleyleague table alone, one point ahead of Iraklis.

The Greens forced Ethnikos Alexandroupolis?s first home defeat this season, winning comfortably 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday despite their numerous absentees.

Panathinaikos now have 20 points from eight games, just ahead of Iraklis, who thrashed bottom side Panellinios 3-0 at home on Saturday (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) and are on 19.

PAOK are now third through their second consecutive loss after their defeat to Panathinaikos. On Saturday they surrendered to a determined Lamia at the Chalkiopoulio court of the central Greek city with a 3-0 score (28-26, 26-24, 26-24).

Olympiakos returned to winning ways on Saturday defeating visiting Aris 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-12), while EA Patras confirmed they are improving beating Apollon Kalamarias 3-1 away (26-24, 24-26, 25-16, 25-15).

On Sunday Kifissia beat newly-promoted Epikouros Polichnis 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-23).

Standings (after eight games): Panathinaikos 20, Iraklis 19, PAOK 17, Lamia 15, Olympiakos 14, EA Patras 13, Aris 12, Ethnikos Al. 10, Kifissia 10, Apollon K. 8, Epikouros 3, Panellinios 3.

The next round of games features the top-of-the-table clash between Panathinaikos and Iraklis in Athens.
