Atromitos and Olympiakos Volou to meet in semis

Atromitos and Olympiakos Volou saw off Diagoras and Kerkyra respectively in the Greek Cup quarterfinals on February 3 and will face each other in the semifinals.

Atromitos beat second-division side Diagoras for a second time, this time on Rhodes.

Having beaten its opponent 2-0 in the first leg at home, the Peristeri side traveled to the the eastern Aegean island and scored a 1-0 win even though it fielded a number of substitutes.

The game’s sole goal came from Polish striker Marek Saganowski who headed the ball into the net in the 34th minute. The former Southampton player made the most of a Stelios Sfakianakis corner from the right to beat the Diagoras defense.

Olympiakos Volou hosted Kerkyra and had to defend a 2-0 lead from the first leg, but came close to going out as it lost 2-1 on the night.

Kerkyra opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a Giorgos Paraskevaidis header that met a corner from the right, with Olympiakos Volou equalizing in the 28th via a Juan Martin tap-in.

Ilias Ioannou made it 2-1 for Kerkyra 17 minutes before the end of the match from the penalty spot, but the Corfu side could not get the crucial third goal that would have sent it to the semifinals for the first time in its history.

The semifinal lineup now is AEK vs PAOK and Atromitos vs Olympiakos Volou.
