Disastrous performance for Aris in Eurocup
Aris played its most disappointing match of the season on February 16, getting thrashed by Goettingen 74-55 in Germany at the Eurocup.
The Thessaloniki club can only hope of qualifying after registering just one victory in four games in the second group stage of the competition.
Aris went to Germany with its new coach, Lefteris Subotic at its bench, replacing sacked Sharon Drucker. The coaching change, however, did nothing for the team, that had also lost to Goettingen at home a couple of weeks earlier.
The Yellows had a disastrous first half that saw them trail their host 45-20, reducing the second half to a mere formality.
Greece’s other representative, Panellinios, is now mathematically eliminated from the same competition, as it lost 82-72 at Benetton Treviso on February 15 and is left without a win after four games in the second group stage.
The Lamia-based team gave the Italian host a good run for its money but crumbled in the end. It can now turn its focus entirely on preserving its A1 status in Greece.
