Greek U-20 team prepares for ride to glory

The Greek Under-20 national team has for the first time reached the last 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup that is taking place in Turkey and is about to face Uzbekistan on Tuesday in the finals’ second round.

The players of coach Costas Tsanas topped their first-round group with five points from three games, as after their 2-1 win over Mexico they drew 0-0 with Mali and 1-1 with 10-man Paraguay.

The Greeks were level on points and goals with Paraguay and FIFA had to draw lots to pick the top team of the group, and that was Greece.

As a result of that the national tea, will face one of the beat third-placed teams in the other groups, with Uzbekistan beckoning in the second round’s knock-out game in Gaziantep. The winner of that tie will play the team to emerge from the match between France and Turkey.

Greece goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino admitted on Saturday that «the final of the tournament is in the back of our minds.”
