Asteras Tripolis stays up, Iraklis relegated

Asteras Tripolis was definitively spared relegation on June 1 after the appeals committee of the Hellenic Football Federation rejected Iraklis’s request to overturn the decision to demote the Thessaloniki club from the Super League for falsifying documents.

The decision means that Iraklis is at the bottom of the 2010-11 table and will go down along with Larissa and Panserraikos. It also means that no more than three clubs will go up from the Football League to the top flight this summer.

Iraklis was found guilty of forging tax documents, had seven points deducted from the season that has just finished and saw its January transfers annulled.

“Asteras will be in the top flight for a fifth season and we are proud of it. We are happy to have got justice using only our own voice,» said Asteras shareholder Dimitris Bakos.
