Greece promoted to Europe’s Super League
The national track and field squad is returning to the Super League of the European Athletics Association after finishing second in the First Division of the European Team Championship at Izmir in Turkey on June 19.
Greece secured promotion to the top level of the national team event along with Turkey and Norway after a great all-around performance by Greek athletes on both days.
The final table after all 40 events had Turkey on top with 329 points, with Greece trailing with 307.5 and Norway in third with 290. Romania missed out on promotion, after collecting 282.5 points.
Greece secured maximum points from Periklis Iakovakis (400 meters hurdles), Nicole Kyriakopoulou (pole vault), Voula Papachristou (long jump), Dimitris Chondrokoukis (high jump), Louis Tsatoumas (long jump) and Costas Philippidis (pole vault).
