Family reasons force Diop to leave AEK

Papa Boupa Diop ended his contract with AEK on August 4 owing to a family problem that is compelling him to leave Greece.

The Senegal international stated on the official AEK website that «unfortunately the nature of my personal problem is such that is forcing me to continue my professional activity close to my family.”

The 33-year-old went on to thank the AEK board and particularly president Stavros Adamidis, as well as the club’s fans, before wishing the team to win the double in the new season.

Diop spent one year in Greece and won the Greek Cup with AEK.

The Athens club will now have to find a replacement quickly, as it has been left with only Grigoris Makos in the position of defensive midfielder.
